Darius and AlexanderLorence Beidlrock (Beutedrock), Lublin (Poland), No. 313, circa 1750.Very fine silver pair-cased hour-striking and repeating coach watch with alarm. Outer: two-body, leather-covered, silver disc at the center of the back. Inner: two-body, the bezel pierced and repoussé with foliage scrolls, the back repoussé with a scene depicting the surrender of Darius to Alexander with outer rocaille decoration. Silver champlevé with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring with arched divisions, center silver alarm setting disc. Elaborate gilt brass "Louis XV" hands. 74,4 mm, mounted to the hinged dial plate with fluted sides, gilt brass fullplate with turned baluster pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance-spring, gilt brass English style cock pierced and engraved with foliage, the back plate overlaid with matching decoration. Hour-striking and repeating mechanisms driven by the same train via fixed barrel, alarm train also with fixed barrel, repeating on a bell by pulling on cord.Signed on the dial and back plate, repoussé signed "GDW".Diam. 127 mm. Notes This watch is published in the Ruscitti book, as no. 83.The clock is unusual for its high-quality repoussé work, in unusually high relief, and preserved in excellent condition. There is only one other clock recorded by this maker; it is a hexagonal table clock in the Polish National Museumin Warsaw.
