“GLT”, Paris, No. 271, circa 1890. Fine and very rare steel, marble and gilt brass Industrial Clock in the form of a hydraulic double-piston pump in a glass dome. Rectangular black marble base over steel floor with industrial floor pattern, the clock in the center housed in simulated engine station with gilt brass columns on each side, the top with an arm having attached pistons on each side in cylindrical steel pistons of different diameters with gilt brass edges. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions. Blued steel Breguet hands. Circular, brass, large going barrel, anchor escapement, spring suspension with X-shaped arrangement, pistons suspended by springs with cycloidal cheeks, micrometric regulator.Punched on the movement with makers mark.Dim. Height 19 cm, width 21 cm. Notes “GLT” was an imaginative clockmaker who made some unusual clocks with different escapements. A clock by him signed on the dial Guilmet, “A.R., Paris” with a mysterious pendulum, is featured in the 3rd volume of “Antiquarian Horology”, p. 170.70.
