Blued steel Breguet hands. 18- gilt brass, ebauche by Louis Audcmars, 25 jewels, gold wheel train, counterpoised straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic balance, Breguet balance spring. Repeating on gongs with slide in the band. Signed on the cuvette. Accompanied by the certificate No. 3360. Diam. 48 mm. Notes Alphone-Benjamin Grollier was a French member of government. He was horn itt Mattze (Deux-Sevres) on March 25, 1807, and his family were shopkeepers From the regions of Poitou and Maine. He studied at the College d ' Alencon (Orne) and .started his working life in the rag-trade, which he left in 1864. In 1848 Grollier was a member of the town council in Alencon when General Cavaignac named him mayor, from which post he resigned in 1850. He, however, accepted the post again in 1861, staying in office until 1868. In the meantime, Grollier was named various times juge of the Tribunal de Commerce, chairing as president as often as it was legally acceptable.
