Adamson a Paris, No. 842, circa 1790. Very fine, elegant and slim 18K gold and enamel, pearl and diamond-set quarter repeating watch in a glazed gilt brass protecting case. Double body, Directoire with split-pearl set bezels, the blue flinque enamel back centred with a rose-cut diamond set paillonne rosette. White enamel with Breguet numerals and " star " minute divisions. Gold skeletonised hands. Hinged slim gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, the going barrel passing through the back plate, cylinder escapement, countersunk plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring with regulator. Repeating on a bell by depressing the pendant. Signed on the dial and back plate. Diam. 56 mm. Notes Adamson Gustave Adolphe was the son of Godfi'ied, a Swedish watchmaker. He came to Paris in 1771, at the age of 26 and first worked Place Dauphine. In 1791 he was watchmaker to the Royal Family, he was then Cour des Moine near the Abhaye Saint Germain. He was rue Saint Vonore in 1800 and Cloitre Saint Benoit in 1813. From 1771 to 1775, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge Saint 1,o,tis de la Mario,ujue el des Freres Reu n is.
