Dwight, Edwin Welles (1789-1841) Memoirs of Henry Obookiah . New Haven, Connecticut: at the Office of the Religious Intelligencer, 1818. First edition, 12mo, with portrait frontispiece and sermons, not included in later editions, bound in original blue paper boards, recently rebacked with paper, untrimmed, spotted throughout. Obookiah's parents and his baby brother were murdered "before his eyes" when he was about eleven, in Hawaii. After living with the man who murdered his family for a year or two, and then being discovered by an uncle, Obookiah decided to leave Hawaii, and traveled alone to New York while still a young teenager.
