Dutch School, 17th/18th Century Italian Landscape Unsigned. Oil on canvas, 45 x 40 in. (114.5 x 102.0 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, retouch, skinning, fine stable craquelure. Provenance: Parke-Bernet Galleries, Inc., Sale #1805, Lot 293, February 8, 1958, where it was sold as Simon van der Does (Dutch, c. 1653-c. 1718). Broadly brushed retouch to the sky across the top of the composition and extending down the left side about 8 in. and down the right side about 16 in. Old retouch along most of the left edge in the trees. Retouch to the center in several places, including a u-shaped 1 1/2 in. area, a round area 1 1/4 in. diameter, a rectangle measuring 6 x 3 1/2 in. located in the lower sky in the center, and a 2 in. line below that. Overcleaning most noticeable in the sky and trees, old stable craquelure and old abrasion above the bull's head, l.c.
