Achille Vertunni (Italian, 1826-1897) Lot of Two Landscapes: Hillside Ruins and Aqueduct in the Roman Campagna Signed and inscribed "A. Vertunni/Roma" l.r. and l.l., respectively. Both oil on canvas, sizes approximately 28 3/4 x 20 3/4 in. (73.0 x 52.7 cm), in period frames. Condition: Minor retouch, frame abrasions, surface grime. Hillside 28 5/8 x 20 5/8 in. (72.8 x 52.4 cm), Aqueduct 28 3/4 x 20 3/4 in. (73.0 x 52.7 cm). Both with discolored varnish and surface grime. Hillside with old repair with retouch measuring 1 1/4 in.(3.2 cm) in sky u.l. quadrant. Accretions in u.r. corner. Aqueduct with a small dent and abrasion measuring 1/2 in. (1.3 cm) l.l. just above signature, frame abrasion and retouch along top edge, and retouch to l.r. corner measuring 2 x 1-1/4 in. (5 x 3.2 cm), possible scatted retouch through the grasses in foreground.
