Georgian-style Japanned Bureau Cabinet, with persimmon ground gilt and enamel decorated with Chinoiserie motifs, including figural landscapes, birds, flowers, and masks, with painted "craquelure" lines, the broken arch pediment with central cartouche and urn-form finials over two mirrored doors and slant lid, both opening to reveal elaborate fitted interior of valanced compartments, drawers, and locked doors, with sliding files formed by the bindings of four volumes of Pinkerton's Travels , over bombe case fitted with three long graduated drawers, on ogee bracket feet, ht. 96 1/2, wd. 46 1/2, dp. 23 3/4 in. Regency carcass with completely re-fitted interior and enhanced drawer fronts. This work and Japanning all mid-20th century. Wood separating on sides of case, scattered chips and losses, primarily to edges.
