Mahogany Veneered and Brass-inlaid Lap Desk, the top and front of case with inlaid cartouche and border of elaborate scrollwork, hinged top lifting to reveal an inset purple velvet writing surface over two cedar-lined compartments, two inkwells, pen well, and small open compartment, mounted with brass side handles, ht. 5 1/2, wd. 16, dp. 9 3/4 in. Loss to veneer and edges, top with long horizontal cracks, scratches to brass, and separation of inlay from veneer on front, interior with ink blotches.
