Classical Gilt-gesso Mirror, probably New York or New England, c. 1815-25, of oval form surmounted by a spreadwing eagle finial, the frame embellished with acorns and flanking leafage and acorns, on a molded bracket, (imperfections), ht. 56 1/2, wd. 34 in. Provenance: Philip Allen, who over the course of his political career served as a member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives, as Governor of Rhode Island, and as a Rhode Island Senator in Washington, D.C. some gesso loss; may have had a decorative device below the molded bracket; may have some regilding; finial with minor repairs and a loss.
