Painted and Gilded Panel of the Hawaiian Royal Coat of Arms and "HAWIIAN LEGATION," late 19th century, depicting the Hawaiian Royal Coat of Arms over a banner inscribed "UA MAU KE EA O KA AINA I KA PONO," roughly translated into English as "The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness" which was the motto adopted by the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1843; with "HAWAIIAN LEGATION" inscribed in gilt at the lower corners, (the Hawaiian Legation were the offices of the Kingdom of Hawaii representatives (prior to 1894) before it became a state, 15 7/8 x 18 in.
