After John Constable (British, 1776-1837) Sketch for 'The Young Waltonians. ' Unsigned, identified on labels on the reverse. Oil on panel, 6 3/4 x 8 3/4 in. (17.0 x 22.0 cm), framed. Condition: Subtle curve to panel, minor scattered retouch, several minute losses, unobtrusive surface grime, craquelure. Provenance: Ex-collection of Sir Edmund Buckley Bart. Fasch Daldog Hall, North Wales. N.B. The finished version of the work, now in the collection of London's National Gallery, was first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1820 under the title Stratford Mill. The present title refers to author Izaak Walton who wrote The Compleat Angler, published in 1653.
