Ebonized Georgian Bracket Clock by James Cowan, Edinburgh, c. 1765, the oak case with caddy top, carrying handle and four pineapple finials, the arched and glazed hood door with sound vents and brass beaded surround over the 6 7/8 in. composite brass dial with silvered Roman numeral chapter ring, faux pendulum aperture, matted center, regulation boss in the arch engraved Ja. Cowan Edinburgh , brass spandrels and blued steel hands, eight-day time, strike and six bell pull quarter repeat on command, fully engraved backplate, crown wheel and verge escapement, ht. 19 3/4 in. with handle extended. Ebonized finish is renewed, movement and dial is in "parlor" ready condition with recent professional conservation.
