American School, 19th Century The Merrimac Sinking the Cumberland, March 8th, 1862 Unsigned, with a label from Kennedy Galleries, Inc. , New York on the reverse. Oil on canvas, 18 x 24 in. (45.7 x 61.0 cm), framed. Condition: Craquelure, surface grime, retouch. Provenance: Estate of Anna Eleanor Roosevelt (née Braman) Grasso, Essex, Connecticut. The retouch is thin glazes to much of the sky. The craquelure is prevalent, and is just beginning to cup gently.
