Japanese Painting, Meiji period, ink and color on silk, depiction of Daikoku, inscription reads "Kano Dorin Fujiwara Yoshinobu kinga" (a man named Dorin of the Kano School, whose name had been Yoshinobu, reverentially painted), two red seals, framed and glazed, 20 3/4 x 11 3/4 in. N.B. Daikoku is regarded as the patron of farmers and businessmen and one who chases demons away. He wears a peculiar kind of hat and holds a mallet, with which he is supposed to be able to produce wealth. He stands on bales of rice and holds a sack, which is said to contain precious objects. Provenance: Descended in the Estate of a Cambridge Massachusetts and New York City Academic Family. Slight staining to the top section
