Charles Lewis (English, 1808-1880) after Thomas Barker (British, 1769-1847). "Nelson Receiving the Swords on Board the San Josef, February 14 1797", hand colored mezzotint and line engraving originally published by Legg & Hayward in 1853, inscribed below image lower left "Painted by Thos. Barker" and lower right "Engraved by Chas. Lewis". Engraving depicting a scene on the deck of the ship San Jose (or San Josef as it was named after its capture from the Spanish fleet) during the Battle of Cape St. Vincent, the Admiral of the Spanish fleet at center on deck surrendering his sword to Lord Nelson, each being surrounded by his men. Framed approximately 42.75" x 60.75", sight size approximately 26.25" x 44.25".
