Idar-Oberstein, Germany, inspired by its frigid origins, the polar bear head has been carved from an exceptionally clear and colorless quartz crystal which takes on a "frosted" appearance and internal glow when lit, the lifelike proportions of the head and neck suggesting musculature and fur, the applied nose carved of smoky quartz, the eyes inset with cabochon cut sapphires within 18 karat yellow gold bezels, the base mounted with a hinged yellow gold cap set with a slice of milky chalcedony.
