H. R. Ekegren, made by Ed. Koehn Geneve, Suisse, No. 83512, for J. E. Caldwell & Co. Philadelphia, circa 1920. Very fine 18K gold keyless, jewelled with blue sapphir es. Three body, massive, "demi-bassine" with concealed hinges, polished, the back engraved with the monogram "E.A.B.". Hinged gold cuvette engraved with a dedication to an Officer of the U.S. Navy, dated 1916. Gold frosted with "Empire" Roman numerals and sunk subsidiary seconds. Gold "spade" hands. Notes Watches with blue sapphire jewel bearings are very rare, the most celebrated is the famous "Howard Blue Sapphire", reputed to be one of the best quality watches ever made in the U.S.A. and produced at 300 examples only.
