Lucien Sandoz & Fils, Lode, case No. 76143, circa 1890. Fine 18K gold hunting cased keyless pocket chronometer with pivoted detent escapement and one minute tourbillon regulator. Four body, massive, "bassine", polished. hinged gold cuvette. White enamel with Roman numerals, outer Arabic minutes ring and sunk subsidiary seconds. Blued-steel "spade" hands. Notes The carriage of this watch is typical of the first type made by Auguste Grether which is fitted to several Girard Perregaux pocket chronometers with tourbillon regulator. Auguste Grether (1817-1879) was born in Ponts-de-Martel, where he began his career; he worked later in Le Lock for the best manufactures from LeLocle and La Chaux-de-Fonds.
