Graham & Colley, London, No. 6618, hallmarked 1755 on inner case, 1757 on the outer.Very fine 22 ct. gold pair-cased early cylinder watch. 34.5 mm o, hinged gilt brass full plate with square baluster pillars, fusee and chain, cylinder escapement, overbanking pin mounted directly on the staff, brass escape wheel, plain steel three-arm jewelled balance with top diamond enstone, single-footed cock numbered 6618 underneath, pierced and engraved with asymmetrical foliage with a mask at the base, worm andwheel set-up.Signed on the movement and the dust cap.Diam. 49 mm. Published in the Sandberg book, page 130-131. Notes Colley Thomaswas Graham's apprentice and successor along with Samuel Barkley, Graham's foreman. From 1754 he worked alone. The present lot must be one of the first made following Graham's death. He died in 1771.
