American, 19th century. Civil War era musical drum, likely for military use, of standard cylindrical form with wooden form decorated with polychrome in deep navy blue, later rope and brown leather strapwork connected by metal hooks on exterior of top and bottom rim. Animal hide drum at top and bottom with damage including rips. Approximate height 11.9", diameter (to outside of metal hooks) 16.75".
