Very fine and rare silver and gilt metal single-hand pendant form watch in the shape of a cross. 38 x 29 mm, cruciform, gilt brass full plate, fusee and gut line for the going train, verge escapement, two-arm iron circular foliot, short gilt pinned cock, pierced and engraved with asymmetrical foliage, wheel and click set-up covered with a cock with large, elaborate, pierced anengraved foot.Signed on the back plate Combret A Lyon.Dim. 61 x 34 mm. Published in the Sandberg book, pages 360-361. Notes Pierre Combret II à Lyon (working in Lyon from 1581 to 1622).The son of Pierre, born in Egleton, died in Lyon on 25 December 1622, married to Anne Cochaud with whom he had thirteen children between 1594 and 1622. One of the leading French watchmakers of the time, his clocks and watches can be found in numerous museums. He made oval, octagonal, and cruciform watches and also produced pendant watches designed as shellfish or tulips.
