English, Late 19th century (circa 1890). A late Victorian stained wood folding library or step ladder with four graduated steps to one side and united to the opposing support with cast iron patent action mechanism stamped 'Self Acting Stop Pat No 6956' and having two shaped upright hand supports. Cast iron fancy scrolled label on side stamped for 'Simplex Ladder'. Approximate height 43.37", width 17.25", depth 24.25" (open). Provenance: Purchased from English Accent Antiques, 674 Miami Circle NE, Atlanta, GA 30324 on July 24, 2003 for $1284.00. Copy of receipt available upon request.
