Unsigned, made by Piguet & Meylan, Geneva, circa 1820. Magnificent gold, enamel and pearl-set quarterrepeating independant jumping dead centreseconds watch, enamelled in the manner of Richter and made for the Chinese Market. our body, the band and bezels decorated with a repeated design of crescent moons in graduated splitpearls and alternate panels with red pellets on a powder blue ground. Back panel centred with a polychrome scene of a young man eating cherries provided by a lady, on a pale background with borders of graduated split-pearl set flowers, the lower part in the form of a balcony in scarlet translucent enamel with white enamel trellis work and further split-pearl foliage. Hinged cuvette decorated with vivid translucent enamel fruits and flowers on a turquoise ground. GiIt brass, lepine caliber, two train with going-barrels, cylinder escapement, plain balance with flat spring. Quarterrepeating on gongs by depressing the pendant. Chinese woven silk-covered fitted case. In excellent condition. Diam. 61 mm. Notes The enamel scene may be attributed with some certainty to Jean Louis Richter (1766-1841), the outstanding Geneva enameller, not only on account of the style and workmanship, but also by virtue of the existence of a signed example of his work which depicts the same figures in the scene. It further seems likely that the case is the work of Georges Reymond who co-operated frequently with Piguet & Meylan and Richter.on their most important productions.
