David Haisserman and Matthias Walbaum, Augsburg, circa 1600. Important silver-mounted ebonised table clock depicting the Passion of Christ, with hourstriking and stackfreed movement. Hexagonal base of ebonised fruitwood, the turned column with silver figure of Christ, surmounted by gilt flattened globe and silver crowing cock. Revolving globe with applied silver chapter-band and Roman numerals. Blued-steelpointer (replaced). Gilt-metal bun feet. Notes The silver Corpus Christi can be attributed with confidence to the Augsburg goldsmith Matthias Walbaum due to the existence of a similar clock with the same model and with stamped master's mark. German clocks of this period where the participating goldsmith's work can be definitively identified are extremely rare.
