Charles Clay, London, No. 1201, circa 1750. Very rare and fine 20 ct. gold mounted, rock-crystal watch. Double body Louis XV, with gold bezels and pendant, cover and back of faceted rock crystal. Later white enamel with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring. Gold Louis XV hands. Hinged giIt brass full plate with column pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring and fine silver English type cock. Signed on the back plate. In very good condition. Diam. 43 mm. Notes Charles Clay was Clockmaker to the King George II. According to G. H. Baillie Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the world, a similar watch is in the collection of the South Kensington Museum in London.
