J. D. Piguet & P. Meylan à Genève, No.134, made for the Chinese market, circa 1820. Extremely fine and rare 18 ct. gold and enamel, quarter-repeating "barking dog" automaton watch. Three body "Empire" with reeded band, bezels chased with vari-coloured cast floral decoration, engine-turned back. GiIt brass hinged cuvette. Eccentric gold engine-turned with Roman numerals on a polished chapter. Blued-steel Breguet hands; Dial plate of blue translucent enamel over engine-turning, with below the dial a vari-coloured applied scene of an automaton dog, running behind a goose. GiIt brass half plate movement with free standing barrel, cylinder escapement, plain balance, flat spring. Pump wound "barking" train activating a bellows by depressing the pendant. Stamped case. In perfect condition. Diam. 59 mm. Notes The watch now offered for sale is identical to that, No. 133, sold by Antiquorum on 10 April 1994, lot 363. The following serial numbers of these two watches, respectively 133 and 134, enable to think they were intended to be sold as a pair such as the most luxury watches made for the Chinese market
