Bonnard à Lausanne, Swiss, circa 1790. Fine and unusual, 18 ct. gold, "Adam and Eve" automaton watch. Double body, Directoire, polished with glazed back. White enamel with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring (slightly restored). Gold hands pierce in interlaced pattern. Full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring. The back plate is covered with a multicoloured gold panel, finely chased with a scene depicting Adam and Eve in the terrestrial paradise, the automaton serpent revolving on the border. Signed on the dial. In very good condition. Diam. 53 mm. Notes "Adam and Eve» automaton watches are usually made with the scene depicting the Paradise painted on the enamel dial, Adam and Eve on a small panel over the visible balance, the serpent revolving on the border.
