Anonymous, Swiss, made for the Indian market, circa 1890. Extremely fine and rare, 18 ct. gold diamond-set hunting cased, keyless, quarter repeating "grande and petite sonnerie" clockwatch with enamel portraits by Amédée Champod. Four body, massive, "bassine et filets", bezels and band with engraved decoration, the cover with the diamond-set monogram: "HB", the back with the fine painted enamel portrait of a Maharaja signed "AC", the monogram of Champod. Gold cuvette with a second enamel portrait by Champod. White enamel with Roman numerals and sunk subsidiary seconds (hair line). Blued steel "spade" hands. Notes One of the most celebrated enamel painter of the end of the XlXth century, Amédée Champod was specialised on portraits of important personalities from the eastern countries, but also from Europe (he made the portrait of the Pope Pie IX), he also painted fine landscapes and hunting scenes for the Chinese and the Indian market. He was working for Bovet, Vaucher, Vrard, Courvoisier Frères etc. His technique was outstanding and his portraits could now days be compared with the most accurate coloured pictures.
