Anonymous, circa 1790. Fine and rare eight-day going weight- driven glass-plate skeleton clock. Single glass plate, the border engraved with a garland of laurel, secured on a black marble base by two brass cylindrical pillars. hite enamel chapter ring with Breguet numerals. Blued-steel skeletonised Breguet hands. Elegant, fully skeletonised train, and weight-driven with two weights and a single barrel, pin-wheel anchor escapement, half-seconds beating pendulum with knife edge suspension. In very good condition. Dim. 45 x 25 x 9,5 cm. Notes The elegant appearance of this clock is the result of the delicate arrangement of the wheel train highlighted against the glass plate. Introduced at approximately the same time as the famous ' Souscription' watches by Breguet, they share the same concept of functional design. Usually such clocks are spring-driven, with examples such as this lot-powered by weights- being infinitely rarer.
