Sold for:

A Monsieur Texier, Lieutenant de Vaisseau Chronometer No. 4084, sold on 15 March 1824, for the sum of 1500 Francs. Silver cased "garde-temps" watch. Notes History: According to the repair books this chronometer was returned for overhaul on 20 December 1824 at the request of Monsieur Texier. Note: The punch mark for Joly has been removed from the interior of the back of the case, almost certainly at the same time as the owners name or coat-of-arms were removed from the exterior, probably at the request of the family. The No. 4084 has been restamped. With the exception of the dial, which is matted rather than engine-turned, this chronometer is virtually identical to the example sold to Capitaine Baudin (see lot 59 and notes thereon).
