John Wilter, London, Swiss made in the English style for the Dutch Market, circa 1760. Case repousse by Mauris, Geneva. Fine silver pair cased repousse watch with calendar. Double body outer, the back repousse with a musical scene and further rocaille decoration, signed: "Mauris Fecit". Inner bassine, polished. Silver champleve with Roman numerals, outer Arabic minute ring with arched divisions, aperture for the calendar indication. Gilt brass Louis XV hands. Hinged gilt brass full plate with square baluster pillars, fusee with chain, plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass Dutch style cock and polished steel end-piece. Signed on the back plate. h1 good condition. Diam. 55 mm. Notes Good example of a watch made Geneva for the Dutch market. John Wilter appears to be a fictitious name frequently found on such watches. The outer case is signed Mauris a famous Geneva case maker.
