Two Cobalt-decorated Stoneware Jars, America, 19th century, an ovoid jar by Benedict C. Milburn (Maryland, 1805-1867), decorated with cobalt tulips and a band of swags and tassels around the neck, impressed "B. C. MILBURN" maker's mark on shoulder (repaired, minor rim chip); the other jar ornamented with a triple loop design, ht. 7 3/4, 7 1/2 in., respectively. The Milburn jar has several repaired cracks and hairlines, most of the cobalt decoration has no cracks through it- just a little on the outside flowers of the design, also 1/2 in. shallow rim chip and a couple small burst pot stone on the rear side some of the decoration has been repainted; the other jar is in good condition.
