Brass Mounted Mahogany Captain's Lap Desk, America, mid to late 19th century, rectangular case with side drawer containing several compartments, the interior with writing surface, two ink bottles, a sander, and pen holder, (minor wear), ht. 8, wd. 21, dp. 10 1/2 in. Provenance: Reportedly descended in the Folger family of Nantucket. One of the side bail handles is missing, small wood patch on drawer front, two cracks on rear area of lid, a few of the compartment dividers are missing or loose.
