Franz Marc (German, 1880-1916) Tierlegende, 1912, probably the third state of three, published 1918 (Lankheit, 831). Unsigned, identified on a label from the Retina Gallery, Cambridge, on the backing. Woodcut on paper, image size 7 3/4 x 9 1/2 in. (19.6 x 24.0 cm), framed. Condition: Gentle rippling, not examined out of frame. Provenance: Through the family of Eleanor Kanegis Levin, co-owner of Kanegis Gallery in Boston from 1953 to 1961, and the Retina Gallery in Cambridge from 1968 to 1971.
