John Gadsby Chapman (American, 1808-1889) Grape Harvesters on the Campagna Monogrammed, dated, and signed "... JGC 73/ROMA" on the barrel l.r., also dedicated, signed, inscribed, and dated "For W.R. BARR. ESQ.-N.Y....by John G. Chapman Rome 1873" on the reverse. Oil on panel, 14 x 10 in. (35.6 x 25.4 cm), in a period frame. Condition: Retouch. Retouch around the outer edges of the painting most likely as repair to old frame abrasion. Small dot of retouch to right of the child's hat, along with other very minor dots in that area.
