Francesco Somaini (Italian, 1926-2005) Ferito III. L'Addio , 1960 Signed, dated, and numbered "Somaini 60.08" on the underside. Cast pewter, approximately 12 3/4 x 15 3/4 x 14 1/4 in. (32.4 x 40.0 x 36.2 cm), on a cast iron plinth. Condition: Surface dust. Provenance: From the artist to Galleria Odyssya Roma-New York, 1962; bequeathed to Harvard University Art Museums, 2003, sold for the benefit of Harvard Art Museum acquisition funds, 2010. N.B. The present work is one of six studies for a larger sculpture, Grande Ferito II. L'Addio , and is the eighth sculpture that the artist created in 1960. It is documented with the Archivio Francesco Somaini, and we wish to thank them for their assistance with cataloguing the lot. The surface is dirty and has subtle rubs.
