Hibbard-' l.l., identified on labels including one from The North Shore Arts Association of Gloucester and inscribed 'Purchased by W.C. Bowlen 1929' in pencil on the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 30 x 36 in. (76.2 x 91.4 cm), framed. Condition: Subtle craquelure. Provenance: Purchased from The North Shore Arts Association of Gloucester, August 29, 1929, by silversmith William Caldwell Bowlen, Newburyport and Holyoke, Massachusetts; by family descent to Nord and Ruth (Smith) Bowlen, Greenfield, Massachusetts; by family descent to a private collection. N.B. The original invoice, two handwritten letters from Jackie Hibbard addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Nord Bowlen dated 1952 and 1958, and two photographs of Jackie and Aldro Hibbard, accompany the lot. Very minor craquelure. Subtle stretcher bar mark right side. Spotting or staining to the reverse of the canvas. No other condition issues to report.
