Rembrandt van Rijn (Dutch, 1606-1669) The Flight into Egypt: A Night Piece, 1651 (Hind, 253; Bartsch/Hollstein, 53 vi/vi). Unsigned, Baron A. Freiherr von Lanna (Prague, 1836-1909) collector's mark to verso (Lugt, 2773). Etching on thin cream laid paper with foolscap watermark, plate size 5 x 4 3/8 in. (12.5 x 11.1 cm), matted, unframed. Condition: Thread margins, pale pin point foxing, annotations and hinging residue to verso. Provenance: Alice and Kurt Mühsam (Muehsam), Berlin and New York; by family descent, New York City; gift from a Mühsam (Muehsam) family descendant to the present private owner. The work is affixed to a supporting mat along the right side. The foxing is tiny and pale and visible only along he thread margins.
