Two Chinese Silver Goblets, third quarter 19th century, one marked S. S and Hui , the bucket-shaped bowl chased and embossed with an elaborate battle scene, and with central shield engraved with trophy inscription dated 1872, with foliate stem, on weighted domed base, ht. 8 3/8, the other with Chinese characters mark and smaller indistinct mark (possibly Elee), the bell-shaped bowl chased and embossed with vertical panels of figures at various pursuits, on addorsed dragon-form stem and tiered, domed foot, ht. 8 3/4 in., approx. 12 troy oz. weighable silver. trophy: with minor surface wear from cleaning. shield engraved "Hong Kong 1872 Garrison Sports Hurdle Race won by Lieut. P.K. Smythe R.N." dragon-stem: minor age wear. Shield likely with engraving removal.
