Fernand Le Quesne (French, 1856-1918) Lady Liberty Leading the Way Signed "F. Le Quesne" l.r., with a Coquelin-Herault, Paris canvas stencil and Schweitzer Galleries stamps on the reverse, and a label from the Museum of the Borough of Brooklyn, New York, affixed to the cardboard backing. Oil on canvas, 39 1/2 x 25 3/4 in. (100.3 x 65.4 cm), framed. Condition: Small tear in l.r. quadrant, craquelure, minor abrasions, surface grime. Exhibition: Tides of Immigration: Romantic Visions and Urban Realities, Museum of the Borough of Brooklyn, Brooklyn College, October 7 to December 2, 1986. Canvas stencil reads "69 Boul.e. Malesherbes Paris/ COQUELIN-HERAULT/ COULEURS FINE, TOILE...DE TABLEAUX" and a label that reads "Collections/ FRANCE - C.G.M." is affixed to the stretcher bar.
