Andrew Lattimore (American, 20th/21st Century) Bannerman's Castle, Hudson River, New York Signed "A J Lattimore (c)" l. r. Oil on canvas, 26 x 32 in. (66.0 x 81.3 cm), framed. Condition: Good. N.B. Pollepel Island, often referred to as Bannerman's Island after the castle there, is located on the Hudson River, at the Northern entrance to the Highlands, approximately 50 miles from New York City. Bannerman's castle was built as a surplus warehouse by Francis Bannerman IV. A businessman and Scottish patriot, Bannerman purchased the land in 1900 and began building in the style of Scottish castles. He continued to work on it until his death in 1918.
