Jesus Guerrero Galvan (Mexican, 1910-1973) The Apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe to Saint Juan Diego on Tepeyac Hill Unsigned. Graphite on paper, sight size 22 3/4 x 26 3/4 in. (57.8 x 67.9 cm), framed. Condition: Laid onto mat board, subtle acid burn. Provenance: Collection of composer Cameron O'Day Macpherson, Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico, c. 1953; private New England collection by family descent, c. 1976. N.B. The work was a preparatory drawing for an oil painting commissioned by Macpherson which was intended as a record jacket illustration for an original score performed at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. The score was unfortunately not recorded, and thus the painting not reproduced.
