Joseph Eliot Enneking (American, 1881-1942) The Blush of Autumn Signed "J. Eliot Enneking" l.r. and identified in an exhibition label from The Boston Art Club on the reverse and in a label from The Casson Galleries, Boston, affixed to the backing paper. Oil on canvas mounted on paperboard, 14 x 12 in. (35.6 x 30.5 cm), framed (under glass). Condition: Minor paint loss, craquelure, surface grime. Printed exhibition label from the Boston Art Club reads, "BOSTON ART CLUB/EXHIBITION OF SMALL PICTURES/December 7 to 29, 1932" and is inscribed in ink "Title: The Blush of Autumn/Artist: J. Eliot Enneking/Price: $75.00/Address: 23 Broadway, Mystic, Conn." On the backing paper there is a printed label from The Casson Galleries/of Irving & Casson. A.H. Davenport Co./575 Boylston Street/BOSTON/At Copley Square, that is inscribed in ink "The Blush of Autumn/ Original Painting/J. Eliot Enneking." The canvas has come loose from the backing in three of the corners. There is some naturally occurring pigment fluorescence.
