Ten Brass or Whalebone Watchmaker's Drill Bows, likely 19th century, seven whalebone examples and three of brass, together with a glass canister with horsehairs to string the bows, lg. 10-20 1/2 in. Note: Crom #2, p. 306, figure 592 shows an example of a whalebone drill bow for sale in an 1886 catalogue. The bow is used to power watchmaker's turns and lathes.
