Italian Violin, Vincenzo Postiglione, Naples, c. 1910, bearing the maker's label, branded to the button and to the lower rib, and signed on the inside top with the maker's signature and Masonic jetatura , length of two-piece back 350 mm, with case and bow. Provenance: Peter Buonconsiglio. Pegholes bushed. Repaired hairline saddle fracture, treble side of top, approx. 7.5 cm. Normal bow wear in treble C bout. Otherwise excellent condition. Peter Buonconsiglio was a veteran orchestral and studio violinist in New York City, who recorded and performed with Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Carmen McRae, Wes Montgomery, and countless others on the stage and and in the studio. He was a member of the CBS, ABC, and NBC orchestras. An educator for 22 years at Columbia University, he also had a distinguished career as a conductor and music director. His Broadway credits included shows with Judy Garland and Barbara Streisand. The Postigolione violin was his principle performing and recording instrument.
