S. S. Nerissa Ship Builder's Model by Hugh MacMillan, 15 Cathcart Street, Greenock, the painted wooden model of the passenger and cargo steamer S.S. Nerissa mounted on a walnut pedestal with descriptive plaque mounted at the bow stating S.S. Nerissa Dimens 350'-0" BP x 54'-0" x 33'-0" MLD. Gross tonnage 5585 tons Built by William Hamilton & Co. Ltd. Port Glasgow for Messrs C.T. Bowring & Co. Liverpool and all enclosed in a glass cabinet on a black painted stand, ht. 66 x 84 x dp. 24 in. The Nerissa was built in 1926 and served various cargo and passenger routes until WW II when she was sunk off the coast of Ireland by a German submarine on 30th April 1941. The Nerissa sank within four minutes and lost all but 84 of her 290 passengers and crew.
