After George Romney (British, 1734-1802) Portrait of Robert Raikes (1735-1811) Unsigned, bears presentation plaque. Oil on canvas, 30 x 25 1/8 in. (76.2 x 63.9 cm), framed. Condition: Paint losses, scattered abrasions, craquelure. Provenance: A New England estate. N.B. This head and shoulders likeness of Robert Raikes is based upon George Romney's three-quarter length portrait of Raikes in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery in London. Raikes was the founder of the Sunday School Movement in England.
