Gilt-bronze Bodhisattva, China, Ming dynasty, Yongle period (1403-1425), the figure of Manjusri seated in the royal ease pose atop a double-lotus throne, both hands in Bhumisparsa mudra holding the end of a lotus stem rising to his sides, one supporting a ewer and the other a bird, wearing closely fitted diaphanous robe embellished with beaded jewelry, the crisply cast folds draping from both legs and extending over the edge of the throne, the Bodhisattva wearing a five-crested crown and large elaborately cast rosette earrings, with benevolent expression, ht. 13 3/4 in. Base plate is gone, rubbing to the gilt
