Rembrandt van Rijn (Dutch, 1606-1669) Christ Disputing with the Doctors: A Sketch, 1652, an early impression (Bartsch/Hollstein, 65 i/iii; Hind, 257). Signed and dated in the plate, collector's mark from the Collection D'Arenberg (Lugt, 567) on the reverse. Etching with drypoint on laid paper with a high crown watermark, plate size 5 x 8 1/2 in. (12.5 x 21.4 cm), matted, unframed. Condition: Margins approximately 1/16 inch, subtle toning/soiling, annotations to the reverse. Provenance: A Rhode Island estate. The sheet measures 5 1/8 x 8 5/8 inches, and is hinged at the upper corners. The impression is strong, with the drypoint only somewhat worn.
